Environmental Data Engineer
Location: Rolla, MO
Salary: $75,000 - $80,000

As an Environmental Data Engineer supporting the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), your work directly supports climate science, emergency response, water resource planning, and more. This is a chance to put your technical craft in service of something lasting.
The Environmental Data Engineer will help design and maintain the data infrastructure that makes nationwide environmental research possible. Whether you’re writing optimized SQL, automating data pipelines with Python, or deploying systems in AWS, you’ll be part of a collaborative team focused on building data workflows that are clean, scalable, and reliable. Additionally, the role contributes to a culture that values transparency, version control, and automation—ensuring the work is not just effective, but sustainable.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
AND 4+ years of relevant experience with active certifications
OR 8+ years of hands-on experience without a degree
• Strong experience writing efficient SQL and working with PostgreSQL to manage large datasets and high-throughput systems
• Proficient in Python for automating workflows and moving data through ingest, transform, and delivery stages
• Comfortable working in cloud and hybrid environments, especially using AWS tools like EC2, S3, and RDS
• Familiar with Git/GitLab and CI/CD pipelines to support stable, automated deployments
