Provide a service of support, transfers, installation, repair, and maintenance of Support Operator requirements throughout the district facilities for the purpose of providing a safe environment for students, staff, and patrons of Spokane Public Schools. Assist other trades in the maintenance department, when needed.

- Daily Start/End times: This position is a Day Shift position, somewhere between 6 AM - 4:30 PM with ability to select from various weekly schedule options per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, decided upon hire.

SALARY: Level 1 on the Unified Trades Salary Schedule. Experience increments depend on experience in the same or similar permanent position within a Washington State public school.
Responsibilities - Regularly drive various large vehicles such as flatbeds, dump trucks, and other vehicles of more than one ton capacity.
- Operate heavy equipment such as front loaders, backhoes, bucket trucks, rollers, articulating knuckle boom, tractors, forklifts and street cleaning equipment, etc.
- Transport and place machinery.
- Prepare areas for athletic fields (requiring heavy equipment) as required.
- Operate jackhammer, hoist machines, pneumatic tamper, portable pumps, air compressors, concrete saw, etc.
- Install and repair fences, signs, playground equipment and assist with repair and maintenance of play structures.
- Perform manual labor such as working with hand tools to dig ditches, trenches, and other excavations.
- Load and unload trucks, transfer or relocating furniture, furnishings, athletic items, music equipment, shop equipment and machinery, and any other support type programs.
- Help construct, patch, and repair walkways, parking areas, paved surfaces, and retaining walls.
- Assist in preparation of new construction, facility alterations, and maintenance projects. Clean up project area as required.
- Operate snow removal equipment and sand icy areas as required during winter months.
- Assist other crafts or departments as required.
- Utilize computers and other communication devices.
- Observe safety rules and regulations.
- Know the use of all related hazardous materials required to perform work.
- Follow district procurement card and purchasing policy.
- Perform related duties as required by supervisor.
Qualifications - Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed above.
- Five years experience in a similar position preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to operate, load, and unload large trucks, vans, and heavy equipment.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to handle power equipment such as tampers, jackhammer, wheel tractors, and other related equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work at various heights from ladders and scaffolds and physical ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Demonstrated successful experience developing and maintaining positive, professional working relationships with diverse groups of co-workers, staff, community, and others in a confidential manner.
- Ability to work in a safe manner following safety procedures.
- Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.
- Demonstrated ability to use computer systems and other communication devices.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
- Must have a CDL or obtain one within 50 working days to continue employment.
- Demonstrated ability to take and carry out directions with minimal supervision.
- Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
MENTAL DEMANDS: Experiences multiple demands and multi-tasking. Requires concentration and attention to detail.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, crawling, and other physical exertion; required to work on ladders and roofs; requires safety awareness on construction, repair and emergency sites; may be requested to work during off-hours for emergencies; exposed to high noise levels from machines; may be exposed to potentially dangerous conditions; required to wear protective gear; required to work outdoors in inclement weather; required to lift and carry heavy supplies, materials and equipment up to fifty (50) pounds; required to drive between sites.

- Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays - Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement as negotiated.
