NSC Staffing is hiring Fire Watch personnel for upcoming long-term shipyard projects in Jacksonville. If you have fire watch experience and are ready to work in a fast-paced marine environment, we want to hear from you.

Position Overview

As a Fire Watch, you will be responsible for monitoring hot work areas, preventing fire hazards, and ensuring a safe work environment aboard vessels and throughout the shipyard. This role requires attention to detail, strong situational awareness, and the ability to act quickly and communicate clearly.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor hot work areas and ensure all fire safety protocols are followed.
• Keep the work area clear of combustible materials before and during hot work.
• Carry and maintain control of a fire extinguisher at all times.
• Immediately warn personnel of hazards or evacuation needs.
• Maintain a clean and safe workspace, especially at shift end.
• Report unsafe conditions to supervisors.
• Verify fire watch notifications and assist with hot work audits.
• Wear all required PPE, including respirators when necessary.

Qualifications

• Previous Fire Watch experience preferred.
• Ability to follow instructions and communicate clearly.
• Understanding of hot work procedures and basic fire safety principles.
• Ability to identify fire hazards and know which extinguishers to use.
• Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, and in shipboard environments.
• Must be physically capable of prolonged standing, climbing, kneeling, and lifting up to 30–75 lbs as needed.
• Must be able to work in hot, cold, loud, or low-visibility environments inside vessels.

Work Environment

• Shipyard and shipboard conditions (heat, cold, humidity, noise).
• Confined spaces, ladders, scaffolding, and mechanical lifts may be required.
• Mandatory PPE at all times.
• Fast-paced environment with active heavy equipment and ongoing construction.
